Well-known hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany is back for another installment of the “Conversations with Adam D. Tihany” video series. On this episode, he explores Holland America’s ms Koningsdam‘s exciting dining venues that guests will be able to enjoy. The ship is scheduled for delivery this April, and is currently being completed at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Italy.
Adam’s goal with Koningsdam’s dining rooms and eateries was to give them a fresh, contemporary look and feel, while using architectural elements that brought out the Architecture of Music theme that the ship has. The Lido Market will have a split-station concept, which will allow guests to circulate in a different way than the usual buffet style, while also creating a market atmosphere. The Dining Room, the ship’s main restaurant, Adam’s designs will draw the eye from the floor to the ceiling with strong architectural elements. He also designed the Queen’s Lounge, Lincoln Center Stage, Billboard Onboard, Canaletto, the Grand Dutch Café, the Culinary Arts Center, and more.
From a foodie perspective, Adam’s opinion is that the Culinary Arts Center is the most interesting space. For the first time on any Holland America ship, it will be used as a restaurant for dinner, in addition to being its usual demonstration kitchen during the day. His design will allow it to be an interactive restaurant in which guests don’t just partake; they participate.
